As has been the case over the last couple of seasons, the Titans are easily the most unpredictable side in the competition, with the club either playing to their peak level and scraping out gritty wins or competing under their best and being blown out off the park as a result.
There’s no middle ground for the Titans, and unfortunately they haven’t been able to produce their best over the last fortnight, suffering heavy defeats to the Panthers and Cowboys.
Gold Coast have the worst defence in the competition, but they still sit in 11th spot on the ladder with a 3-4 record – equal to that of their opponents on Saturday.
Cronulla improved to 3-4 for the season after registering a 26-22 home victory over the Panthers last weekend, inflicting just the second defeat on Penrith for 2018.
The Sharks had yet to really get going this season, changing their combinations frequently, but perhaps scoring 26 points against an in-form top four side will see them generate some momentum.
With the third worst attack in the competition and eighth-best defence, Cronulla still have some work to do if they want to be considered a top eight side.
But they have a great chance to rack up some points and work on their defence against the Titans on Saturday. It all depends on what Titans side shows up, but more often than not, it’s not their best. I’ll back the Sharks home in a close one.
