The Knights returned home after losing their third game in a row, going down to the Titans but not without a fight. Although finishing on the wrong side of the ledger, they still managed to put 26 points on the board in their 33-26 loss.
The Sharks did it the hard way but still managed to shut out the Bulldogs in a nail-biting 22-16 victory. Team captain Paul Gallen made his return from injury along with Josh Dugan and Jayson Bukuya who all made significant contributions in the win.
The key match-ups here are probably a little lop-sided with the Knights still missing key players including their halfback and captain Mitchell Pearce. With Connor Watson and Jack Cogger filling the middle of Newcastle’s spine, the Sharks pairing of Matt Moylan and Chad Townsend certainly have the edge in that department with their superior experience and success so far this season.
Knights forwards Herman Ese’ese and captain Aidan Guerra will have to step up yet another gear if they hope to hold out the likes of Gallen, Graham and the returning Luke Lewis who is damage control himself with his line hitting strength.
The Knights will be aided by the home crowd support and they are a 10-point better side when playing in front of the Novocastrian crowd while the Sharks aren’t afraid to hit the road, already winning three away games this season.
While the Knights will give their all this game will come down to the last 20 minutes and it’s here I believe the likes of Valentine Holmes and out wide and the in-form Andrew Fifita and James Segeyaro in the middle will seal a sixth straight win for the visiting Sharks.
